Thanksgiving
I had a pretty good Thanksgiving. My sister, Myrna, invited me over to spend the holiday with her and her husband, Paul. I was shocked. For one thing, Myrna has never invited me to anything. Not that I minded. I thought we just never were close.
Anyway, I agreed to her invitation and took the Cal Train to San Jose. From the station, Paul, drove me to their home.
I could smell the turkey in the oven. The aroma was amazing, of course, it still needed three more hours, but it would be worth the wait. It would take four more hours before the entire meal was ready. I took most of the time to re-connect with my sister and her husband. Gosh, it's been about three and a half years since I last visited her.
Myrna and Paul are doing well. A funny thing happened that I simply did not expect. I was in the kitchen chatting when suddenly Myrna looks directly at me and says, "Miriam, . . . you look really GOOD." I got embarrassed. I said, "Thanks." I guess I "look good" since I've lost a considerable amount of weight. Anyway, it was very nice of Myrna to, not only notice my weight lost, but to SAY something. Myrna is NOT the type to give a complement.
After some time, I had to take a nap. I guess it was due to the stress of getting to San Jose which tired me out. I knew the nap would rejuvenate me and it would also get me out of the way as my sister and her husband made the meal (both Myrna and Paul really know their way around a kitchen and take meal making s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y).
When I awoke, I was told that the meal was almost finished. All Myrna and Paul had to do was make the mashed potatoes and stuffing. When everything was ready, Myrna and Paul put everything on the table and we ate our Thanksgiving meal. It was magnificent. They both out did themselves. For dessert, Paul grounded up some coffee beans so he and I could have fresh hot coffee with the pumpkin pie (Myrna and Paul took turn whipping up the handmade whipped cream).
I can say that I am TOTALLY stuffed and happy. Myrna packed LOTS of leftovers for me to take home. Myrna and Paul hoped I would visit them more often. And I do plan to go down south more often. I also invited them to come stay with me in my little flat.
Goodness. It's a rare day when I actually have a good holiday and this day was definitely one of the best.
